For more than four decades, The Foodbank has served as the link for food relief in the Miami Valley. The Foodbank- the only one of its kind in the area - nourishes the hunger relief efforts of the community through the acquisition and distribution of food to the hungry throughout Montgomery, Greene and Preble counties. The Foodbank provides the infrastructure for nearly 100 member programs that serve as the charitable food relief network in the area. The Foodbank strives to provide healthy, nutritious meals to all individuals we serve. Although The Foodbank's mission is simple, making it happen is a great undertaking that grows larger every day. Countless individual volunteers help us organize food drives, help sort and distribute food to the needy and help us raise much needed funds. No other organization in the Miami Valley does what we do.

Note: The Impact & Results score currently has no effect on the nonprofit's Star Rating.

The Impact & Results score is a measure of how well a nonprofit delivers on its stated mission. To issue a score, Charity Navigator estimates the actual impact the nonprofit has on the lives of those it serves, and determines whether it is making good use of donor resources to achieve that impact. Learn more about our Impact & Results methodology here.

Program Activities
The Foodbank primarily collects, warehouses and distributes food to front-line organizations like food pantries and soup kitchens. It also manages smaller programs that serve meals and provide groceries directly to beneficiaries.
Impact Statement
$2 provides a meal to a person in need.
Assessment Benchmark
Impact & Results scores of food distribution programs are based on the cost of a meal relative to the cost that a food-secure person incurs to buy a meal in that county. Programs receive an Impact & Results score of 100 if they are less than 75% the cost of a meal and a score of 75 if they are less than 125%. If a nonprofit reports impact but doesn't meet the threshold for cost-effectiveness, it earns a score of 50.
Methodology
ImpactMatters analyzed publicly available data to rate the cost-effectiveness of The Foodbank.
Data Source
Outcome data collected during the program. The Foodbank publicly reports the amount of food it provides.
Method for Attributing Outcomes
We assume that the distribution of a meal from one nonprofit's food distribution program does not diminish the amount of food distributed by any other (neighboring) food distribution program. This “counterfactual” assumption about the amount of food distributed in the absence of The Foodbank’s food distribution program implies that the benefit of a meal to a beneficiary in need constitutes a net gain; the gain is not offset by reductions in food provided to other beneficiaries in need. We therefore set the counterfactual to zero.
